Hungarian reading corner in the National Library of Laos

The Embassy of Hungary donated more than 200 books and publications to the National Library of Laos, including literature and children’s books in Hungarian, popular science for youth in English, as well as books and publications about Hungary in English.

Based on this collection, the Library will create a Hungarian Information Point for the visitors. The Embassy plans to help expand this collection in the future, too, by regularly donating further books and publications, and thereby establishing a long-term cultural collaboration with the National Library of Laos. On the occasion of the handing over ceremony on 28 April, a temporary poster exhibition was also opened in the Library, presenting Hungarian Nobel Prize laureates and other famous inventors, as well as a particularly delicious slice of gastronomy, the Hungarian sweets and cakes. Many thanks to all the respected Lao, Hungarian and international guests who attended the handover ceremony, in particular H. E. Mme Darany Phommavongsa, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mr Samlane Luangaphay, Director of the Lao National Library, H.E. Mr Mark Gallagher and H.E. Mme Bénédicte Deschamps, Ambassadors of the EU and France, respectively, and other colleagues from the European delegations and from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR.
