Annual meeting of the Lao-Hungarian Friendship Association on 21st March 2026. The meeting discussed the last year's activity and defined its tasks for 2026. The Association comprises around 80 members, mostly the alumni members graduated from Hungarian universities in the 1980's. László Takács, Ambassador of Hungary and Zoltán Szabó, Deputy Head of Mission were present as well.

The Embassy of Hungary donated more than 200 books and publications to the National Library of Laos, including literature and children’s books in Hungarian, popular science for youth in English, as well as books and publications about Hungary in English.
Hungary supports the water and wastewater management in Vientiane Capital
On 12 June the Embassy of Hungary organized a water industry promotion event in collaboration with the Hungarian Laoprojekt Ltd, celebrating the recent World Water Day. The event brought together officials, experts, engineering students and teachers, in order to demonstrate the operation of a water treatment plant in Dongbang village and the country’s first centralized wastewater treatment plant in Khamngoi village, both built by Hungarian main contractors and financed through the Hungarian-Lao tied aid loan program. During the field visits in the outskirts of Vientiane Capital, the participants gained valuable insights in water and wastewater management as Hungary’s flagship development projects in the Lao PDR, and were also introduced to the implementing companies.
Introducing the Kodály Method to the Lao National College of Arts
Ms. Edit Lánczky, a Hungarian music teacher currently working for the Liszt Institute in Beijing, ran a training programme at the Lao National College of Arts between September 30 and October 9, jointly organized by the College and the Embassy of Hungary in Vientiane.
Lunch with the representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Hungarian revolution
1956-2026 – The Hungarian people rose against dictatorship and oppression 70 years ago on 23 October 1956. Our Embassy commemorates the anniversary of the revolution and freedom fight with a succession of events in October. On 26 October, Ambassador László Takács hosted a lunch in Crowne Plaza Hotel for our key counterparts from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We were glad to welcome Director General Mr Ekkaphab Phanthavong (Dep’t of Europe-Americas), Director General Mr Somkhit Vankham (Press Dep’t), Deputy DG Mr Vongvilay Thipphalangsy, as well as Mrs Lakavanh Keomany (Dir.), Mrs Phonsy Boulom (Deputy Dir.) and Ms Viphaphone Douangkeo (desk officer for Hungary).
Screening of the film “Love” at the French Institute in Vientiane
In the succession of celebratory events to commemorate the October 1956 revolution, the highly acclaimed Hungarian film „Love” (Szerelem), directed by Károly Makk in 1970, was presented in the French Institute in Vientiane on 28 October. The movie was screened in original Hungarian language with French subtitles. A garden reception was also offered to the distinguished guests, including the Ambassadors of the Republic of Korea, Timor Leste and Cuba, members of the diplomatic corps, members of the Laos-Hungary Friendship Association, Stipendium Hungaricum alumni and Hungarians living in Laos. In his introductory speech Ambassador László Takács spoke of the events of 1956, as well as the succeeding wave of emigration from Hungary and the role of countries that provided asylum to more than 200 thousand fleeing Hungarians.
