Screening of the film “Love” at the French Institute in Vientiane

In the succession of celebratory events to commemorate the October 1956 revolution, the highly acclaimed Hungarian film „Love” (Szerelem), directed by Károly Makk in 1970, was presented in the French Institute in Vientiane on 28 October. The movie was screened in original Hungarian language with French subtitles.

Record high turnout at the annual SH alumni meeting

In the evening of 10 September, the meeting of Lao alumni graduated from Hungary in the framework of the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme took place in Vientiane’s Amari Hotel in very good mood. The event, organised annually by the Embassy of Hungary, attracted a record high number of participants, with over 80 former students attending.

This year, a total of 79 Laotian applicants were awarded the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship. They will be able to begin their studies in September 2026 at various universities in Hungary in Bachelor, Master or PhD programs.

Screening of „Cat City” at the European Film Festival

On Saturday, 23 May 2026, from 10:30 AM, one of the most popular Hungarian animated films called „Cat City” will be screened at the French Institute in Vientiane. The film, first shown exactly 40 years ago in 1986, will be screened as part of the European Film Festival, in original Hungarian language with English and Lao subtitles. The admission is free. Everyone is warmly invited!

The Embassy of Hungary donated more than 200 books and publications to the National Library of Laos, including literature and children’s books in Hungarian, popular science for youth in English, as well as books and publications about Hungary in English.
